I have no problem with Sesame Street addressing the issue of homosexuality and acceptance on the show.
I’m SURE the people behind Sesame Street would have no problem with this and would (maybe actively are) looking for a way to make this happen. I actually trust the creators of Sesame Street because they’ve never done anything to make me think that they’re in any way AGAINST issues of inclusion. They are doing what they can but they also have to walk a fine line in addressing hot button political issues.
To use an example, in a perfect world I’d love to see them address the issue of abortion! Hey, let’s normalize it and show a woman has the legal right to choose in this country. They’ve certainly talked about doctors and not being afraid to go and it’s no big deal etc. Unfortunately that sort of thing doesn’t exactly fly under the radar. And here’s the thing, Sesame Street does no one any good if it’s off the air.
What Sesame Street does do is teach children about tolerance and about accepting people as they are. That is still a valuable message. Even if it’s not as pointed as some might like.
